Dear Friends,

This past week Graham, Randi and family were with us from New York for Haley’s graduation.  I was talking with Wyatt, (Graham and Randi’s oldest) and asking him a question I often ask my grandkids, “What one word would you choose to describe how knowing Jesus makes you feel?”  Wyatt immediately responded, “Saved!”

This is an interesting (and very insightful) answer.  At first response you might think that “saved” is not a feeling.  But I teach 4-6 Grade Bible class and this is a very frequent answer I get from young students.  They are not giving a theological answer, but an emotional one.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO FEEL “SAVED?”  Saved means safe…and when you’re safe you’re free!

  1. Free from the fear of death

Romans 6:23 (NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. Free from the power of sin

Romans 8:2 (NLT) And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

  1. Free from the fear of circumstances

Romans 8:28 (NLT) And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

  1. Free from fear of being alone

Romans 8:38–39 (NLT) And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  1. Free from the fear of the future

Romans 8:31–32 (NLT) What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

King David said, “From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise…” (Psalm 8:2).  Wyatt reminded me of how true this is when he said that Jesus makes him feel saved.

Let me ask you, “Do you know what ‘saved’ feels like?”  If not, it is very simple to experience.  The Apostle Paul simply states, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Onward feeling saved,

Pastor Gary
