Dear Friends,

Today we celebrate Palm Sunday.  This is the day that Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey exactly as Zechariah had predicted more than 500 years previously.  Jesus was affirmed as the coming King, the Messiah, the Son of David.

On Tuesday of that week Jesus took His disciples over to the Mount of Olives adjacent to the Temple and taught them about the end times (see Matthew 24-25).

Let’s take a quick overview of the End Times:

The Temple will be destroyed“Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!” (Matthew 24:2). This happened exactly as Jesus had predicted in 70 AD.

There will be an Explosion of Knowledge and TravelBut you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.” (Daniel 12:4).

Israel will be reborn as a nation‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: O my people, I will open your graves of exile and cause you to rise again. Then I will bring you back to the land of Israel. (Ezekiel 37:12).

Believers will be RapturedFor the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.  Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17a).

There will be one world government, under one political leaderFor that day will not come until there is a great rebellion against God and the man of lawlessness is revealed—the one who brings destruction.  He will exalt himself and defy everything that people call god and every object of worship. He will even sit in the temple of God, claiming that he himself is God  (2 Thessalonians 2:3b–4).

A Seven-Year Covenant with Israel will be signed to mark the beginning of the TribulationThe ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings.” (Daniel 9:27a).  This means the Temple must be rebuilt and sacrifices resume in order for Temple to be desecrated.

There will be unprecedented man-made and natural disastersNation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world (Matthew 24:7).

A New Monetary System will be EstablishedAnd no one could buy or sell anything without that mark, which was either the name of the beast or the number representing his name (Revelation 13:17).

The Covenant will be broken with Israel marking beginning of the “Great Tribulation”For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be…and they will be placed under his control for a time, times, and half a time (Matt. 24:21; Dan. 7:25b).

All Israel trusts in Jesus as their MessiahI want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters, so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ.  And so all Israel will be saved (Romans 11:25–26a).

Jesus wins the Battle of ArmageddonAnd the demonic spirits gathered all the rulers and their armies to a place with the Hebrew name Armageddon (Revelation 16:16).

The King Returns to JerusalemFor as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes (Matthew 24:27).

Believers enter into the His KingdomThen the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world (Matthew 25:34).

He rules for 1,000 Years (Millennial Kingdom)Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. For them the second death holds no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him a thousand years (Revelation 20:6).

Jesus was Born to be King.  The wise men asked, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him” (Matthew 2:2).

Jesus Claimed to be King.  Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” “Yes, it is as you say,” Jesus replied (Matthew 27:11).

The King will rule from David’s throne.  You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus.  He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David.  And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” (Luke 1:31–33).

The King Is Coming Again!  “For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord’” (Matthew 27:11).

Let’s look at Ephesians 1:3–14 to see some of the blessings we have by living under the King’s rule:

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing:

  1. God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes.

  1. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family

  1. He purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

  1. He has showered his kindness on us, along with all wisdom and understanding.

  1. God has now revealed to us [that] at the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ

  1. We have received an inheritance from God

  1. He identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit [as] guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people.

Why?  He did this so we would praise and glorify him.

SO WHAT?  In response to this, here are two questions that must be answered:

  1. Are You Ready For The Kingdom?

So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation? (Hebrews 2:3a).

  1. Are You Living for the King?

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter” (Matthew 7:21).

This Palm Sunday I am reminded that the King Is Coming Soon!  He who is the faithful witness to all these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon!” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20).

Onward with my King,

Pastor Gary
