This picture is when our son, Graham was just 7 years old.  We had been teaching him to learn how to match his clothes.  We explained how the colors of your pants and shirt should match or at least compliment each other.

One morning we were leaving for worship and Graham came out to the van proudly wearing this outfit.  He had worked hard to make sure it “matched.”  The whole family roared in laughter.  He had managed to pick out colors that kind of worked together, but Graham simply didn’t understand what he needed to do match.

Matching our wants and needs are a lot like that.  There is a longing in our heart, a thirsting in our soul that we desire to satisfy.  We look around at the world and think that we can satisfy our longing by drinking it in…possessions, power, prominence, people…but the more we take in the things of the world, the thirstier we become.

It’s like being lost at sea.  As time goes on your thirst becomes more and more intense.  You look at water as far as you can see and finally succumb to the temptation to drink in the salt water, but this only increases your thirst and ultimately leads to your death.  It NEVER satisfies your thirst.

HOW TO SATISFY YOUR THIRST:  I hope you will take a moment and truly think about these Scriptures.  They declare a truth that I have found to bring satisfaction and joy.

Everyone Who ThirstsHo! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price.  Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.” (Isaiah 55:1–2).

Taste and SeeTaste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!  Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing. (Psalm 34:8–10 ).

My Soul Thirsts for GodO God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. 3 Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you! (Psalm 63:1–3).

Come and DrinkJesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!  Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ ” (John 7:37–38).

Never Thirst AgainJesus replied, “Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again. 14 But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” (John 4:13–14 ).

Have The Desires of Your HeartTake delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires (Psalm 37:4).

Only God knows how to MATCH what He can offer with what we really need.

Would you surrender to His love today?  Drink and be satisfied in Him alone!!

Onward fulfilled,

Pastor Gary
